Liverpool Football Club is a professional English club, based at Anfield in Liverpool. Nicknamed 'The Reds', they currently play in the Premier League. Liverpool were founded in 1892, and joined the Football League in 1893.
Liverpool FC were the most successful of any English club during the 20th century, winning a plethora of league titles, domestic cups, amd European competitions. They have won a joint-record 18 English league titles, and 5 European Cups, a British record.
The club is one of the most popular and widely supported in the World, although they have not won any major silverware since 2006. They are currently managed by Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish (nicknamed 'King Kenny' by the fans), and it is hoped that he can bring the glory days back to Anfield.
In recent years, the club has been troubled by financial problems and legal battles, and came close to bankruptcy in 2010. After much speculation, Liverpool were taken over by American John Henry of New England Sports Ventures, and it now looks like some stability has been restored to the club.
